Myles' West Hills Bike

Myles owns a cool book and paper shop in North East Portland that is called Ampersand. He came to us to build a bike for him that would be fun to get out and hammer on, but be able to pack a few more things if necessary, to head out for a longer adventure. We decided to use Shimano long reach caliper brakes for this bike. They allow for fairly big tires with fenders without causing problems. This is the type of bike that Signal tends to build a lot of. Sporty, dependable, clean, and versatile. Myles had a clear vision of what he was going to use the bike for and left the rest up to us. We decided to build with Richard Sachs lugs and Columbus Spirit tubeset made specifically for lugs. The front rack was built to carry a bag that would allow for quick access to a camera or sandwich, or can easily be removed if the ride is going to be shorter and faster. We chose Shimano Ultegra components for their reliability and ease of maintenance. This was the first bike we got to put Chris King's new R45 hubset on. They are an impressive hub, very light! The paint was inspired by a photograph of a motorcycle that Myles was drawn to. It's a beautiful pearl blue.
